A concert celebrating some of the new work that has emerged from Peter Sheppard Sk忙rved鈥檚 long-term collaborations in 2026. A recent issue of Gramophone notes:
This is a quietly tremendous album, beautifully played and recorded a testament to creative friendships between musicians and their instruments transcending space and time鈥.
Each piece reflects the mutual fascinations of the violinist and his composers: Inspiring places, art, the music of the past, nature鈥 . Peter has premiered over 400 works for violin and this programme is a selection of what emerged this year.
Peter premiered Gregory Fritze鈥檚 鈥楽tillwater鈥 in Minnesota in October, in the riverside town that inspired it. He is just completing recording a second disc of Fritze鈥檚 work, with his Kreutzer Quartet
Sadie Harrison鈥檚 鈥楬erbarium鈥 and Robert Saxton鈥檚 two miniatures were both inspired by the extraordinary Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, near Penzance, where they were premiered this summer.
Peter鈥檚 album of Jim Aitchison鈥檚 chamber music was released to critical acclaim this year, also inspired by Tremenheere.
Leading Swedish composers Rolf Martinsson and Staffan Storm鈥檚 new pieces were inspired by two of the 19th century composers Peter plays the most, Tartini and Helmlich Roman. He will give the Swedish premieres of these pieces the week after this concert.
This concert marks the launch of Peter鈥檚 album of Nigel Clarke鈥檚 鈥楤rue[g]el鈥檚 Brush鈥 on Metier, also celebrated with a major article in 鈥楪ramophone鈥 magazine this month. This work was developed in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels, where it was premiered this spring.
